Michigan Central, Michigan\u2019s Office of Future Mobility and Electrification, Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM) and Wayne State University proudly kick off the 15-month fellowship for 10 recent college graduates from all over the country to advance mobility in the state of Michigan.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

DETROIT \u2013 October 4, 2024<\/b> \u2013 <\/span>This week<\/span>,<\/span> Michigan Central, Michigan’s Office of Future Mobility Electrification, CEDAM and Wayne State University kicked off the MI Mobility Fellows Program (MMF), the groundbreaking public-private partnership dedicated to addressing critical mobility challenges and fostering innovation across the state. Its inaugural cohort of fellows is comprised of recent college graduates from around the country. Half of the fellows will spend the next 15 months working to support mobility tech startups and founders who are based in Michigan Central’s Newlab Detroit, and half will work with transit and economic development agencies throughout Michigan to address mobility and transportation planning challenges. The 10 fellows and their hosts are:<\/span><\/p>\n

The City of Detroit<\/b> will welcome <\/span>Yonikka Tinsley<\/b> as the new Mobility Specialist with the Office of Mobility and Innovation (OMI). Yonikka is a Central Michigan University graduate of Community Development from Detroit, Michigan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yakoob Anam<\/b>, a Michigan State University graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Supply Chain Management, will be placed with <\/span>Clinton Transit System <\/b>as their new Rural Mobility Innovation Planner<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Energy Storage Safety Products International, LLC (ESSPI)<\/b> will welcome <\/span>Aman Veer Gadiya<\/b>, a new Michigander from Texas A&M University with a Master\u2019s in Aerospace Engineering. Aman will be joining ESSPI, LLC as their new Product Manager – Engineering Lead.<\/span><\/p>\n

Samarion Flowers<\/b> will serve as the Regional Transportation Planning Specialist for the <\/span>Great Lakes Bay Regional Alliance. <\/b>Samarion is a returning Michigander and recent graduate of Alabama A&M University, with a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Liberal Studies focused on Urban Planning and Design.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nishchal Bidadikar Natesh<\/b>, an international student from India, and a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), will be joining <\/span>InvestUP<\/b> as their new Community Transportation Integration Coordinator.<\/span><\/p>\n

Natalie Lambert <\/b>will join <\/span>Just Air<\/b> as the Air Quality Management Solutions & Strategic Partnerships Manager. Natalie is a Michigan native and a Grand Valley State University graduate of Environmental and Sustainability Studies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mass Transportation Authority \u2013 Flint<\/b> welcomes <\/span>Joseph Allen<\/b>, as their new Transportation Engagement Planner. Joseph is a Texas native and Michigan State University graduate in Urban & Regional Planning and Economic Geography.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pradip Rimal<\/b> will join <\/span>OptimizeEV <\/b>as the EV Charging Systems Integration Leader. Pradip is an international student from Nepal with a Master\u2019s in Physics from Oakland University.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shrikant Pawar <\/b>will join <\/span>RoboWorkx d\/b\/a Snowbotix<\/b> as their Full-stack Robotics Engineer. Shrikant is an international student from India who just completed his Master\u2019s degree at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Strut Motors<\/b> will host <\/span>Demetrios Kaltsas<\/b>, a Michigan native, with a Bachelor\u2019s in Mechanical Engineering from Northern Michigan University. Demetrios will work as Strut Motor\u2019s new Mechanical Engineer.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of the Office of Future Mobility and Electrification, we are excited to welcome this inaugural cohort of MI Mobility Fellows and look forward to their contributions to advancing Michigan\u2019s mobility ecosystem,\u201d said Justine Johnson, Chief Mobility Officer for the State of Michigan. \u201cThese 10 Fellows represent a bright future as we work together to support startups, tackle mobility challenges, and provide transportation solutions for Michiganders across the state.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The MMF program was created in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Office of Future Mobility and Electrification (MEDC OFME), Michigan Central, Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM), and Wayne State University as an initiative to attract and retain talent in Michigan. All 10 fellows are recent graduates with backgrounds from all disciplines looking to advance mobility across the state of Michigan. The MMF inaugural cohort represents schools from Michigan and across the country such as Texas A&M and HBCUs including Alabama A&M University.<\/span><\/p>\n

With a focus on supporting diversity, equity and inclusion within the mobility sector, this inaugural cohort comprises at least 44.4% of Michigan natives, while bringing two new recent graduates to the state. Of the 10 talented fellows, at least 33% identify as international students, 44% or more are BIPOC and 33% represent women in mobility.<\/span><\/p>\n

During their fellowship, which kicked off with an immersive three-day orientation this week, MMF Fellows will work full-time roles at host sites while engaging in a comprehensive fellowship curriculum that supports professional development, mentorship, leadership development and collaboration with a network of industry leaders and innovators.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fellows hosted at Michigan Central will have access to Michigan Central\u2019s unparalleled ecosystem of mobility innovation, including more than 100 startups based at Newlab; corporate, venture capital, government and academic partners; and cutting-edge prototyping and piloting resources. Working in communities throughout Michigan, fellows focused on mobility and transportation planning will help drive new efforts to support the mobility of residents and the coordination of planning within their respective region. Fellows will start their first day of employment with host sites Monday, October 7 and will continue the program through December 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Michigan Central is home to some of the most leading edge innovators in the hard tech and mobility industries, and it is imperative that they have access to the best talent to help sustain and grow their businesses,\u201d said Clarinda Barnett-Harrison, Skills Director at Michigan Central. \u201cThe MI Mobility Fellowship was born out of the understanding that, in order for Michigan Central to be the global epicenter of mobility technology, we must actively ensure that we\u2019re creating exciting opportunities to attract and retain recent graduates to our campus.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The first day of the fellowship commenced with an immersive orientation designed to inspire and equip fellows with the tools and connections necessary for success. The three-day orientation will feature specialized programming, cohort-building activities and introductions to the ten MMF host sites and esteemed partners, including MEDC OFME, Wayne State University, Michigan Central and CEDAM.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 15-month program provides fellows an opportunity to make a significant impact on the mobility landscape in Michigan. As they begin their cohort experience, Michigan Central, OFME, CEDAM and Wayne State University look forward to witnessing the innovative solutions and advancements that will emerge from this talented group.<\/span><\/p>\n
